Into the Sunless Citadel
Arc 1. Where it starts.
Fallcrest, a frontier town on the edge of the North Watch. Banner, who runs the Riders of the Watch, hired the party to find three of his people — Braford, Sharwyn and Rylan — who had gone south to look into livestock killings near Kuiper's ranch and had not come back.
The road south
Kuiper reported kobolds near the Kalton Wood, across the White Rock River. On the way the party was ambushed in camp by twig blights — plant things with claws. They killed them without knowing what they were.
The tracks led across the river to a ravine and the sunken ruin of the Sunless Citadel.
Kobolds, goblins, and Meepo
Inside: a sealed dragon door they could not open, and beyond it kobold territory and Meepo, a kobold nobody in his own tribe respected, who saw the party as a way back into favour. He brought them to the kobold queen, who offered the key to the dragon door in exchange for her white wyrmling, stolen by goblins. She confirmed the missing Riders had come through and never come out.
In goblin territory the party found traps, patrols, and a giant rat nest holding what was left of Rylan. They took his Rider's Ring.
They found the wyrmling loose in a goblin storeroom. It looked at Meepo and tore him apart. They subdued it, crated it, and delivered it. The queen paid, handed over the key, and said the Riders had gone deeper.
The goblin question
The party stormed the goblin stronghold. The warriors died fast. The non-combatants barricaded themselves in a room.
Kvothe wanted them dead. Agatha, citing Torag, refused. Agatha won and the goblins fled. Kvothe has said since, more than once, that they will regret it.
The lower level
Down a pit: undead, more goblins, and a bugbear with a longsword that crackled. Kvothe killed it and took Stormcaller Blade, which he still carries.
They found a shrine to Ashardalon and a library beside it with a book of dragon lore in it, which they kept.
The Sunken Grove
Sharwyn and Braford were alive down there, and enthralled — serving a twisted druid who served a Gulthias Tree, with twig blights swarming.
By the end only one character was still conscious. The druid and the blights died. Sharwyn and Braford were subdued rather than killed, and restored.
Holed up in the grove afterwards, the party found a golden apple growing on the tree and took it. Nobody liked the look of the tree, so Kvothe burned it down.
The trunk split open over a stone sarcophagus. Kvothe opened the lid. The figure inside woke with a shriek, turned to vapour, and went out through cracks in the ceiling.
Agatha, at the time:
"That's not going to come back and bite us in the butt or anything."
That was Gulthias.
The dragon door
With the queen's key they opened the sealed door, killed the Dragon Priest behind it, and took the treasure — including the Phoenix Cloak, which Agatha claimed and still wears.
Then home to Fallcrest with two Riders recovered and one buried.
