What We Carry
The Chain Breaker
+2 warhammer · rare · requires attunement. Attuned by Agatha.
A heavy dwarven warhammer with a head forged from deep iron and inlaid with silver runes in an archaic dialect. The haft is wrapped in sharkskin leather that never grows slick. When held, the wielder feels a faint vibration — like a heartbeat in the stone.
| Property | Effect |
|---|---|
| Clarity of Will | While attuned: advantage on saving throws against psychic attacks, and resistance to psychic damage |
| Freeing Strike | On a hit against an aberration, +1d8 radiant. This rises to 2d8 against anything able to charm, dominate or enslave |
| Sever the Chain (1/day) | Action. Strike the ground for a pulse of divine light in a 30-foot radius. Each creature of your choice in the area that is charmed, frightened, or under a domination or enslavement effect immediately repeats its saving throw to end it. The original caster does not need to be present |
Where it came from. Out of a behir's hoard on 17 April, in a cavern west and south of the Sanctuary. The party did not find it by chance — the Way sent them. He named it in advance as a weapon made specifically to oppose the Old Ones, marked the cavern on their map as "great reptiles," advised them to kill the behir from range, and handed over two vials of lightning resistance for the job.
He later examined it with visible reverence and confirmed it: genuine, and able to shatter the mental shackles of those held in psychic thrall. Its primary use, he said, is killing the things it was built to fight, and freeing those in their thrall.
Sever the Chain is a thirty-foot area effect that frees the dominated, and the dominator does not have to be present for it to work.
The hammer is dwarven, of deep iron, with silver runes in an archaic dialect, and it is in the hands of a dwarf cleric of Torag, god of the forge and protection. Where it was made, and how it got into a behir's nest, is unestablished.

The Oathbow
A white bow found leaning against a wall in the Underdark.
- Kvothe grabbed it and took lightning damage. Tried again and went down
- Ubo tried and was shocked too
- Jocelin saw it appear again mid-battle, took it up, and heard "death to our enemies."
It chooses. And then it chose again. Jocelin was killed by a wraith on the 29th of Autumn, and the Oathbow came off her body. Sylvara carries it now, and has hit a kuo-toa leader for 41 with it.
It put one party member on the floor and injured another, and it has not objected to a third.
Given back
Windsong — a very rare +3 longbow resting on the altar in the Sanctuary of Whispered Stars. Kvothe took it and gave it to Jocelin.
The Keeper came for it on second watch. It did not belong to Jocelin. Return it, or "the way" would come. Jocelin returned it — and in exchange the Keeper granted the party use of the Sanctuary for rest.
It was confirmed back on its pedestal when the party returned on 3 April. They know exactly where it is, they are welcome there, and nobody has tried again.
Refused
The tainted spear. Found in the Brokenskull orc hoard in the Dawnforge mines. It radiates bad vibes. Uncle Bill identified it: powerful enchantments, and a bad feeling.
Nobody in the party would carry it, and nobody has ever asked why an orc raiding party in an abandoned copper mine was holding it.
Transferred by combat
The Master of the Mantis tattoos. Mystical markings granting monk abilities that transfer to whoever defeats their bearer.
Zarah took them off a Derro master at the portal chamber; they moved onto her skin the instant she landed the killing blow. She described them as "a second voice that is not quite my own."
She left with them. If she is ever defeated, whoever beats her becomes Master of the Mantis.

- Yew Claw bark, dried — +1d4 to Intelligence saving throws for one hour. The reason three of the party survived a Mind Blast
- Fairy Caps — two in the healer's satchel, foraged by Ubo
- Potions of Domination — enemy materiel. They lower resistance to mind control. Nobody has ever established who makes them
