Andrew Cooper Almost too much Awesome.

Open Questions

Nothing on this page is a secret being kept from anybody. It is the list of things the party has personally seen, been told, or promised, and has not resolved.

Things with a physical object attached

The sealed door under Thistletop. A binding circle carved into a single block of stone, with two deliberate slots in the seal. Nualia spent months looking for it and died without opening it. There is something behind it she believed would win her the war.

The goblins are scattered, the fort is open, and we know exactly where it is. It needs two keys. We have neither, and nobody has asked what fits them.

The ritual book. The Blessing of Lamashtu is in our hands, bound in a hide nobody could identify. It contains other rituals, and nobody has read them. Lucian wants it somewhere with a vault and a temple — Magnimar, not Sandpoint. That has not happened yet.

The two wells. One under Sandpoint, ringed with nothing anybody made a note of, which had something thin come out of it. One under Thistletop, ringed with carved stacks of gold coins. They are the same kind of thing. Nobody has dealt with either of them.

The collapsed tunnels under the glassworks. The catacombs were cleared. They were not all opened. There are tunnels down there that are still collapsed, under a building that currently doubles as the town's shelter.

The far end of the smugglers' tunnel. We sealed our end. We have never once controlled the other, which comes out on the cliff a couple of hundred yards beyond the wall. During the North Gate, every civilian in Sandpoint was sitting at the far end of it and the only thing watching the mouth was one man in a boat with a borrowed horn.

Flightless's circlet. Red-gold Thassilonian metal, inscribed on the inside with Sihedron runes, warm to the touch, and it faintly hums.

Thalanadil spent half a session reading Thassilonian runes off a wall with a borrowed field guide and concluding the place was a temple of greed. A member of his own party is wearing an inscribed Thassilonian artefact and the two facts have never been in the same conversation.

Brodert Quink could almost certainly read the inscription.

Things with a person attached

Nualia's child. She was pregnant when she supposedly died in the fire five years ago. Orik said flatly that there is no child and looked genuinely confused at being asked — but he was hired months later and did not necessarily know. When the party prepared her body for burial they found her stomach covered in scars that looked as though she had been gutted at some point.

There was nothing about a baby anywhere in her rooms.

Grace wants an answer. The one person who could have given her one is dead.

Tsuto Kaijitsu. Alive, in a cell, and the only member of Nualia's circle in anyone's custody. Nualia is dead and Lyrie is dead, so nobody is coming for him. He is also Ameiko's brother.

Nobody has decided what to do with him, and nobody has questioned him since the war ended.

Ameiko's succession. Lucian promised to get Mayor Deverin to arrange a legal succession for the Rusty Dragon and the glassworks. That was the price of keeping Ameiko off the wall, and she kept her side of it for three nights. It has not been arranged.

Orik. His employer is dead and his contract has run out with the war. He may bow out quietly. He may stick around. Nobody has asked him, and he has not raised it.

Aldern Foxglove. Met us once, was effusive, issued an invitation. Then reappeared, unprompted and unarmoured, at the most dangerous point of the siege, to stand next to us. Then waited two hours in a cold inn to say thank you.

The boar hunt invitation is still open, and nobody has taken it up.

Flightless's parents. Her family belonged to a dragon cult and she was to be sacrificed to it. Her parents had her smuggled to Sandpoint instead and were, as far as she knows, executed for it years ago. She wants to know what actually happened and has "no idea where to begin." Nobody has helped her look, and the cult is entirely unaccounted for.

Stone's symbol of rank. He carries one. It goes with a Soldier's background. Nobody has ever asked him whose army, and Mayor Deverin looked at it on his bed and deliberately did not ask either.

Stone's two decisions. The mayor has offered him a captaincy of the Sandpoint militia — forty gold a month, drill twice a week, and "it is being here," which means being in Sandpoint when the party leaves for Magnimar. And Jargy Quinn's widow has asked, through Father Zantus, for Stone to speak her husband's funeral rites, because he is the man who talked him into fighting.

Her version of that is not quite what happened. Nobody in the room knows the difference except Stone.

Things nobody has explained

Who or what was in the sea cave. Huge, many-legged, killed on the way into Thistletop the first time, never identified.

What the goblin tribes did afterwards. Ripnugget went out and brought several tribes in. The Thistletop tribe is decimated and scattered. Nobody has counted the rest, and Shalelu is the one person who could say which of them would have actually come.

Whether Shalelu knows the bugbear is dead. She has been hunting him for years. Somebody should tell her.

Lamashtu. We have the name off a book cover. We have a statue with a jackal's head we have never named. Nobody has asked a priest a single question about either.

The one nobody has said out loud

We were told, in plain words, that there were seven Runelords, that they built their magic on the seven sins, and that they each ruled a nation.

We have stood in a ruin dedicated to wrath underneath our own town, and a ruin dedicated to greed four miles up the coast, with a runewell in each of them and the same masonry in both. We were told that the landscape moved when Earthfall happened and that "you could be sitting on what used to be a border."

We have all the pieces.

Nobody has put the name to it.
